Maybe This Is the Year You Stop Renting…

Let’s just say it.

You’ve thought about buying a house.

Maybe while paying rent.
Maybe while watching your landlord “update” your unit with the cheapest possible faucet.
Maybe while scrolling Zillow at 11:47 p.m. like it’s a dating app.

And then your brain goes:

“I probably need 20% down.”
“My credit isn’t perfect.”
“I should wait until I make more money.”
“The market is crazy.”

So you close the tab. Again…

Let’s calm this down.

First: You Don’t Need to Be Ready!! Gasp! I know, you do not need to be ready in order to start the process.

You Just Need Information.

The biggest mistake future buyers make?
Waiting until they feel 100% ready.

No one feels 100% ready. Ready isn’t a feeling, it’s a decision.

Not first-time buyers.
Not second-time buyers.
Not even people who build houses for a living.

Confidence comes from clarity, not from magically waking up “prepared.”

The 3 Biggest Myths Keeping West Michigan Renters STUCK in the renters cycle.

“I need 20% down.”

Nope.

Many buyers put down:

  • 3–5% with conventional loans

  • 3.5% with FHA

  • Even less with certain assistance programs

Is 20% great? Sure.
Is it required? Absolutely not. You won’t know what your options are until you START the process.

“My credit has to be perfect.”

Also no.

You don’t need an 850 score and a halo.

You need:

  • Stable income

  • Manageable debt

  • A lender who can explain your options

  • Oh, you can also be self employed!!

A quick conversation can tell you where you stand. No commitment required.

“The market is too crazy.”

West Michigan is competitive, yes. Excuse me while I roll my eyes at this excuse. A crazy market doesn’t mean DON’T BUY!

But here’s what actually matters:

  • Preparation

  • A clear budget

  • A calm strategy *Psst you don’t have to know this part perfectly. That is why you work with a team that can educate you!

Prepared buyers win even in competitive markets.

So What If 2026 Is Just the “Gather Information” Year?

What if instead of:

“I need to buy this year.”

You shifted to:

“I’m going to understand what’s possible this year.”

That’s it.

No pressure.
No leap off a cliff.
Just education.

If you’re renting in West Michigan and even curious about buying — this is your sign to start asking questions.

Not committing.
Not signing.
Just learning.

And yes, Zillow scrolling still allowed.

I will be honest, this was me. I was the one stuck in the renters cycle. I was a single mom. I was self employed. Since getting into the real estate industry and learning what’s possible I have become passionate in helping people get out of the rent cycle, get into their dream home, and see what is actually possible without being held back by fear. Instead being empowered by what is truly possible!!
